PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of copper in a refining stage by adding copper compounds in slag after refining as a subsidiary material to an alkaline earth metallic chloride or the like. CONSTITUTION:Crude copper is subjected to slag refining with CaCl2 as an alkaline earth metallic chloride or a mixture of CaCl2 with CaO as an alkaline earth metallic oxide, and formed slag is dissolved in water. Copper is separated and recovered from the undissolved matter mainly in the form of copper compounds, and the recovered copper is dried and added to slag for refining as powder, so copper in the formed slag is charged again as recovered copper. Copper is circulated between the refining and recovering stages, and operation with no loss of copper is carried out in the following stages. By this method the loss of copper in the refining stage is reduced.
