The spacer comprises two hollow section posts (2,4) connected by a web, by clips, or by plates (8,9), being used to connect building elements forming the two leaves of a cavity wall. - Split tubes (12,13) with fins slide onto the posts and fit in element grooves to make the connection, having an overall dia. equal to or nominally less than that of the grooves. The split tubes may be mounted on the posts as wall erection proceeds, being used in conjunction with other sliding connectors (14) which are partly housed by posts of a different type.
