The engine (2) of the vehicle drives an alternator (1) whose output frequency and voltage are compared (11) with desired values. The resultant error signal is applied to a controller which acts on the engine so as to equalise the desired and actual characteristics of the current. - A converter (4) transforms the pair of error signals (Ic1,Ic2) into a mechanical control pulse (Scom) for displacing a movable controller (5), whose reciprocating motion is damped (6) elastically to produce the corrective signal (Scor), actuating the throttle or fuel injection system (9). The electronic package (13) includes a display (15) of the desired current characteristics.
