The case holds up to 24 cigarettes in a row covered by a clear plastic band. The band has an aperture in it, large enough to allow one cigarette to be extracted. The band runs over four toothed wheels, one of which drives the band, under the control of an integrated circuit. The night before starting a reduction course, the user fills the case with cigarettes, one by one, through the aperture, and then uses small keyboard to programme the number of cigarettes to be released during the next waking day. He laso programmes the number of days between reductions. At appropriate times, the band is moved in to release a cigarette and a buzzer is sounded. Each following evening, the user refills the case with the number of cigarettes displayed on a small numerical read-out.
