The brake comprises two brake shoe (L,R) carriers, pivoted together at a point (0) radially outside the wheel tyre. A wire spring secured to the wheel fork (at A,B) acts on the carriers (at C,D) in outward directions and the brake is operated via a sheathed cable, having the sheath secured (E) to the side of one, and the slide cable to the same side of the other carrier (at F). To maximise the force available for actual braking, the spring only provides the force to release the shoes. Unilateral rotation of the carrier assembly is prevented by a stop arranged on the wheel fork and engaged by one carrier only as its shoe (R) is released. FL.
