A process for the preparation of ink-insensitive starch glues, primarily for use in the manufacture of corrugated cardboard, employing the washwaters from flexography installations, and eliminating any modification of the gelatinization point and viscosity of the resultant glues by the presence of ink residues comprises incorporating an additive containing one or more salts and/or oxides of Ca, Mg, Ni, Ba, Co, Cr, Al, Fe3+, Zn, Sr, Pb, Sn, Ti, V, Cu, Mo, Cd, Sb, W and Bi as well as silicoaluminates, activated charcoal, cements and above all silicates, used under the normal pH conditions of the glues. Starch compositions for use in the process besides starch also contain such an additive, or alternatively the additive may be added to the washwaters referred to.
