Measurement of the torsional and bending capabilities of the lower extremities of a human body is accomplished by applying torsional (twisting) and bending (pitching) forces to the lower extremities through the muscular strength of a subject and to the limit of significant pain or discomfort. Means are provided for measuring the applied forces to provide torsional and bending indies, and which indices may be correlated for a variety of purposes desired. The apparatus has a foot pedal (10) with a bracket (23) carrying a retaining element (25) and a hinged heel retention divice, the pedal being mounted on a pivoting mechanism.
