The building has a large area floor formed by side by side conveyor belts. This forms the standing area for the chickens, and above each belt can be supported a trough for feedstuff. Drinking devices can be positioned between the belts. The belt conveyors are supported by a structure mounted on telescopically adjustable vertical supports. When required, all the belts can be operated to deliver the chickens to a cross conveyor at one end. This discharges at an opening through a side wall of the building. The belts forming the floor can be of plastics grid construction. This grid is formed by I shaped members, the cross pieces of each I being shallow. A spindle passes through each line of hollow cross pieces, and each spindle has a roller at each end.
