A method of and an arrangement for controlling the refinishing operation for the electrode points of a spot-welding machine by means of a portable refinishing device are provided which ensure that the refinishing conditions and the duration of refinishing, irrespective of the skill and attentiveness of the operator, are controlled in such a way that optimum life of the electrode points is ensured.
