Compsn. (I) comprises an unsatd. polyester prepolymer (II), a co-polymerisable monomer (III) consisting of unsatd. organic cpds. (IV) comprising carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid anhydrides, amines, amides, alcohols and or thiols and an epoxy resin (V). - Pref. (II) is derived from a mixt. of phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride and a glycol. Pref. (III) is a mixt. of (IV) and a vinyl monomer (VI) comprising styrene, MMA or vinyl toluene and (I) comprises 15-50 pts. wt. % of (III). Pref. (IV) comprises mono-carbonylic acids and their homologues; dicarboxylic acids and their homologues; anhydrides; prim. aliphatic amines, sec. aliphatic amines; aromatic amines; amides etc.. Pref. (V) is diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A. and (I) comprises 0.5-80 pts. wt.% of (V). (I) also contains initiators comprising MEK peroxide or benzoyl peroxide to copolymerise its components. - (I) after cure, has improved high temp. stability and is partic. suitable for making GFR material which can be made into shapes (eg) by wet lay up without use of compression moulds or as sheet moulding cpds. for construction of car bodies.
