ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA transtating field inductor for the stirringroller of a continuous slab caster includes a grooved arborcarrying flat magnetic sheets disposed parallel to the axisof the arbor, the latter and the sheets being notched by aseries of circumferential grooves spaced over the length ofthe arbor and housing circular induction coils. In order toconcentrate the magnetic flux on the moving slab in thecourse of the continuous casting, the arbor is stationaryand is made of a nonmagnetic metal with good electricalconductivity. It has a longitudinal groove with a widetransverse cross section housing a single packet of sheets,which constitutes the magnetic core of the inductor. Thearbor forms a screen for the magnetic flux generated by theinduction coils with the entire assembly being such that themagnetic flux is oriented in a fixed, prescribed direction.
