14 49,566ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA gas-insulated circuit breaker is describedwhich includes a Y-shaped, hollow grounded metal basemember formed from a support section and two angularly-extending legs. A hollow insulating casing is secured toeach base member leg. A stationary and a movable contact,separable from each other to establish an arc therebetween,are disposed in one of the casings, with an insulating gasdisposed within both the base member and the insulatingcasings. A mechanism is used for directing a blast ofinsulating gas into the arc established between the separ-ating contact, and includes a piston fixedly disposed inthe one casing and a puffer cylinder secured to the movablecontact and movable over the piston to compress the gastherebetween. An operating mechanism is associated withthe base member support section for moving the movablecontact, and a drive rod insulatably connects the movablecontact and the operating mechanism. The operating mech-anism thus moves the movable contact through the insulatingdrive rod.
