AbstractQuadrupole Singlet Focusing for AchromaticParallel-to-Parallel DevicesA first order achromatic magnetic deflectionsystem for use in conjunction with a charged par-ticle accelerator is realized from a stepped gapmagnet wherein charged particles propagating throughthe system are subject to at least two adjacent homo-geneous magnetic fields in adjacent regions (54 and56) in traversing one-half of a symmetric trajectorythrough the system. A quadrupole singlet element Qdisposed substantially at the entrance plane of sucha symmetric system makes possible the coincidenceof the waists of the beam in both the vertical(transverse) and (radial) bending planes.
