Apparatus for the extraction of soil samples in the region of railway tracks for the purpose of determining soil-mechanics characteristics, wherein earth borings are undertaken in the region of track installations by means of a drilling tool (1-4) and drill cores are extracted, which last can then serve as test specimens for laboratory examinations, characterized in that the angle between the geometric axis (15) of the drilling tool (1-4) and a line perpendicular to the track plane is variable.
