Rubber-to-metal adhesion promoting compositions and the use thereof

The present invention relates to new organic and inorganic rubber-to-metal adhesion promoting compositions an their use. The compositions comprise metal salts, such as salts of cobalt or nickel, applied to a powdered, adsorbing carrier, such as a zeolite or a silica. Preferred organic adhesion-promoting compositions comprise metal carboxylates having from 1 to 22 carbon atoms. Especially suitable inorganic compositions are obtained by heating metal metaborate/silica blends and/or metal orthoborate/silica blends resulting in metal polyborosilicates.;The present compositions display very good adhesion properties, hardly or do not affect rubber properties and effectively inhibit corrosion of the metal elements in the rubber.
