determination of the ph, the partial pressure of co2 (pco2) and the partial pressure of oxygen (po2) in the blood is a procedure established diognos tic.used with a number of medical and surgical treatment.;various instruments were studied and developed for the determination of ph, po2 and the pc02 blood.it is common practice to use solutions of controls to verify the accuracy and reliability of these devices.it was found, however, that after a certain period of time.the blood samples used for protein instrument tended to accumulate on the electrode mebrane and separated, and the pores of the material forming the membranesemi permeable or contamination of other tubes of the instruments.;these disadvantages have been eliminated by the development of a synthetic liquid control standard with a buffered solution of dye aqeuse at ph 7.1.approximately 7 and containing sufficient bicarbonate ions for a pc02 20 to about 80, ethylene glycol to provide a viscosity of 3 to 10 centipoise to about.and gaseous oxygen to provide a connector 50 to about 400, contained in a hermetically sealed vessel.
