Is carried out examination and cytological sampling of the endometrium by inserting a transparent membrane into the cavity of the endometrium to collect cytological sample, then placing the transparent membrane on a slide (35) to enable the staining and the study of the sample without having to transfer the sample from the collector to slide. The transparent membrane preferably has the shape of a body similar to a ball (31) which fits the distal end of a tubular probe (10) and which can be selectively inflated after insertion through the application of a pressurized fluid to the proximal end of the probe (10). The probe (10) can selectively outputting an insertion sleeve (19) and be retracted therein, the sleeve being used for guiding the unit to the desired depth in the cavity of the endometrium. Once the probe (10) properly inserted, a syringe (29) can be connected to a suitable mounting (11) to inflate the member similar to a balloon (31).
