5-(2-Fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-3-hydroxy-1-methyl-7-nitro- and 5-(2-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-3-hydroxy-7-nitro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin- 2-one are insignificant metabolites of flunitrazepam which themselves have excellent pharmacological activity. Apart from the use for preparing pharmaceutical compositions, the preparation of these substances is described.
