A synergistically acting composition for the selective control of weeds in transplanted rice, or rice which has been sown in water, is composed of an effective amount of a mixture of the herbicides 2-chloro-2',6'-diethyl-N-(2''-propyloxyethyl)acetanilide and S-4-chlorobenzyl diethylcarbamate, besides inert additives, it being possible to add 2-phenyl-4,6-dichloropyrimidine thereto as an antidote to increase the tolerance by rice.
