The door retaining strap for a motor vehicle acts with an end stop mounted on the door pillar and has a pivted attachment to the door. The pivoted attachment incorporates a spring-steel spindle which absorbs shock loadings thus preventing development of play in the pivot after prolonged use. The strap (10) is connected to the door mounted bracket (3) by a hollow spring-steel spindle (12) which is pressed into holes in the two flanges (5, 6) of the bracket (3). The spindle (12) also passes through an aperture (11) in the strap-end, which is located between the two flanges (5, 6). The spindle (12) which is retained with the hollow rivet (15) deflects slightly perpendicular to its axis under shock loading.
