1. Fin stabilized penetrator projectile having a high length to diameter ratio and preferably with a high density, a rear part of the penetrator being formed as a tail boom for a stabilizing empennage provided with fins, characterized by the following : (a) the tail boom for the empennage (10) comprises a circumferential region (8) in which it is secured in a predetermined manner, and (b) the empennage (10) detaches from the tail boom not later than the instant at which same contacts a part of a target (armour plate), in which process the tail boom participates fully in the penetration action.
