The device serves to compensate for displacements of a moving, projecting machine-tool part (2), in particular of a milling spindle slide, from a predetermined desired position, which displacements are caused by machining forces and/or dead weight. It is equipped with at least one sensor (11) monitoring the displacement of the projecting machine-tool part (2) and transmitting control signals to a control means (12) in the event of displacement from the desired position. A projecting supporting member (7), as far as possible flexurally rigid, is arranged inside the housing (3) of the projecting machine-tool part (2). The supporting member (7) is firmly connected to the housing (3) at its end (3b) opposite the projecting end (3a). At least two vibration-exciting force elements (8) controlled by the control means (12) are arranged opposite one another in pairs on the projecting end (7a) of the supporting member (7) between the latter and the housing (3). The control means (12) also has a microcomputer (12a) by means of which a counter-vibration of the housing (3) can be excited which counteracts the vibration of the housing (3) caused by machining forces.
