The present invention relates to a switching device. It relates to a device which is switched on by pressing in and releasing a push button (27) and which is tripped by deformation of a bimetallic strip (30). The device has a two-armed lever (28), which is articulated on the push button (27) and interacts with the bimetallic strip (30), and electrical contact elements (32, 33). The device is characterised in that the spring means for closing the contact (32, 33) and the restoring means of the push button (27) are formed by a single spring (36) which is supported directly on the lever (28) between its articulation point on the push button and the end (43) of the lever (28) which interacts with the bimetallic strip (30).
