In order to achieve lower pollutant emission, the petrol/air mixture must be set to be richer, as a result the CO content is increased (but is reduced again by the following afterburning) and the NOx content is reduced. The remaining pollutants, carbon monoxide CO and hydrocarbons CH are reduced by addition of ozonised air in the exhaust gas connection piece.
