The invention relates to a device for the automatic roll change on a continuously working machine for winding a material web, especially textile web. The aim of the invention is to provide a web-winding machine, on which a material web, especially textile web, moving at high speed is also cut reliably and the new web start is attached to an empty winding core in a fault-free manner. The object on which the invention is based, on a web-winding machine, is, with a view to a rapid roll change, reliably to sever the running material web exactly at right angles to the web running direction to produce a short web start to be wound on. This object is achieved, according to the invention, in that a cutting device, possessing a plurality of cutters moving at high speed transversely to the web running direction, is arranged at a fixed location in such a way that the flight path of the cutter tips extends, in the web running direction, directly behind the partially looped-round winding core and on the same side of the material web as the latter, and that a feed element guiding the material web up to the cutting device is connected to the pivoting device.
