The invention relates to an annealing separator which contains, relative to 100 parts by weight of magnesium oxide, 0.05 to 2.0 parts by weight of antimony sulphate and at least one chloride selected from the group comprising the chlorides of Sb, Sr, Ti and Zr in a chlorine quantity of 5 to 20% by weight, relative to 100% of the chloride and of the antimony sulphate, and occasionally Ti oxide in a quantity of 0.5 to 10 parts. In the manufacture of a grain-oriented electric steel sheet, the annealing separator is applied to the strip subjected to a decarburisation annealing and it improves both the magnetic properties and the glass film properties.
