To increase the temperature in the lower region of a fusion gasifier without significantly affecting the temperature of the fluidised coal bed in a fusion gasifier, it is proposed to recycle a part quantity of the reduction gases, taken off from the gasifier top, to a point below the pressure gasification zone or fluidised bed and to burn them with oxygen fed in this region.
