An embosser has a hopper (30) contg. stacks of blanks which are fed to a magnetic writing section by a feeder mechanism. Several embossers are connected to a data link. A data source is coupled to the data link for supplying data records to be embossed on the blanks. The data source is a storage medium used as a file. A system controller is coupled to the data link for controlling an embosser to permit selection of any of the several embossers to emboss any character field of a data record.
