Method for refining a Fe-Ni, Fe-Co or Fe-Ni-Co series alloy steel to remove acidic oxide forming elements of Mo, W, Cr, Al, Ti Nb, Zr, P, S etc. in which the alloy steel is melted, subjected to oxidation and deslagging treatment for making a part of the acidic oxide forming elements to acidic oxide and forming peroxide (sic) molten steel while deslagged to remove part of the acidic oxides. The molten steel is blow with a powdery or granular mixture slag forming agent of glass and =1 carbonate of Na, Ca, K, Mg and Ba to form basic slag of basicity 1.5. The acidic oxide forming elements remaining in the molten metal have an affinity for the basic slag, and are removed completely.
