Centrifugally cast steel pipe for transporting wet abrasive material - has high war resistance and low hardness

A steel pipe for transporting abrasive material in a wet medium, esp. for hydraulic banking-up of mines, has an abrasion resistance sufficient for its use and a Vickers hardness of 215-315. Pref. the steel contains 0.06-0.15% C, 0.1-1.0% Si, 4.4-6% Cr, 0.2-0.5% Al, not more than 0.5% N, 0.3-1% Mn and not more than 0.2% Mo. The pipe is produced by centrifugal casting followed by holding at 980 deg.C for 1 hr. and cooling in still air. The pipe has a long working life but has a low hardness so that it can be machined economically. It has a higher wear resistance than conventional pipes of the same hardness and has good weldability.
