The three-coordinate axis measurement device with a rectangular horizontal alignment plate (1) has a horizontally sliding frame (2) moving in the X-axis and carrying a vertically sliding carriage (3) movable in the Z-axis. The vertically movable carriage (3) carries a transverse arm (5) movable horizontally in the Y axis perpendicular to the X axis and carrying a measurement head (6). Measurement errors arising from the torque applied by the transverse arm are eliminated. A counterweight (8) is positioned in a guide (7) directly or indirectly attached to the stand (2) so as to compensate the transverse arm torque acting on the stand. The counterweight guide may be mounted at the top of the stand (2), on the carriage (3), or in the transverse arm. The wt. may be positioned in opposition to arm movements and independently for adjustment purposes.
