Liq., soln. or dispersion is fed into a spraying nozzle and pre-dispersed. At least one gas, which may contain solid and/or liq. particles, is fed as a helical stream creating turbulence and a drop in pressure where the gas meets the pre-dispersed liq. The gas stream causes the disintegration of the liq. stream so that efficient mixing is ensured. The liq. is pref. fed as a cone or as several small streams into the nozzle. One pref. nozzle has an axial inlet for the liq. and tangential inlets for one or more gases. The speed of the liq. prior to pre-dispersion is pref. 1-10 m/s, dropping to 0.03-3 m/s where it meets the gas, which is pref. at 30,000-60,000 Pa. Better heat- and mass- transfer is obtd.
