Radar signal responder for target simulator - provides controlled augmented echo over predetermined time intervals to simulate larger target causing confusion

An echo reinforcing device is provided to increase the apparent surface of the carrier. The device emits a signal controlled in amplitude and in phase by the echo reinforcer only in the radar reception band, and receives, from this radar spaced pulses of duration, t, with a recurring period of Trn. The control system allows the receiver of the responder to open before the reception of the nth pulse at the instant ton-(t/2), and to close at the time ton+(t/2). The transmitter is open from ton+(t/2) to the time ton+(3t/2). The echo reinforcer is made operational during the same interval as the transmitter. The receiver is then next opened at a time ton+Tr-(t/2). Tr is chosen to equal the shortest period of the received signal. The timing intervals are memorised.
