The arrangement for generating the 30-Hz reference signal is a component of an otherwise conventional VOR transmitter system which radiates a first signal which consists of a radio-frequency carrier oscillation of angular frequency omega which is amplitude-modulated by a subcarrier of angular frequency OMEGA which, in turn, is frequency-modulated by the said 30-Hz reference signal which has the angular frequency OMEGA , and also radiates a second signal with a rotating cardioid-shaped pattern as sinusoidal signal with a frequency of 30-Hz, which is designated as a variable signal and the audio-frequency envelope curve signal of which of the sidebands with the angular frequencies omega - OMEGA and omega + OMEGA has a phase which is characteristic of the azimuth angle theta of the ground position of the transmitter system. The 30-Hz signal of angular frequency OMEGA , by means of which the subcarrier with the angular frequency OMEGA ' is modulated, is derived from the two sidebands which have the angular frequencies omega - OMEGA and omega + OMEGA .
