Device for radioactive decontamination of metal surfaces by electrolysis with a buffer and electrolytes which can be used for carrying out this decontamination. The decontamination is carried out by electrolysis with a buffer by employing electrolytes comprising at least one acid such as tartaric acid, citric acid, H2SO4 or H3PO4 and at least one compound such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium sulphate, potassium sulphate, aluminium sulphate and formaldehyde. The movable electrode employed for this decontamination comprises a graphite element 1 which has an internal chamber 3 fed with electrolyte.
