The invention relates to the construction of chopping boards in compressed vertical-grain wood and chopping boards in compressed horizontal-grain wood, in which the extreme compaction of the fibres prevents the meat juices from penetrating them and makes them insensitive to surrounding hygrometric variations and hence virtually wearproof and nondeformable, which eliminates the risks of formation of microbial cultures. The construction according to the invention is particularly intended for food-grade use, but can also, by the same principle, be used in lesser thicknesses as floor-covering tiles. IMAGE
