METHOD OF CARRYING OUT FRIEDEL-CRAFTS REACTION AND FRIEDEL-CRAFTS LIKE REACTION

Friedel-Crafts and Friedel-Crafts analogous reactions, which are carried out in inert anhydrous solvents and in the presence of anhydrous halides of aluminium, iron or zinc, can be continued such that after the reaction is complete, halides of the alkali metals or alkaline earth metals or of substituted or unsubstituted ammonium are added to the reaction mixture at 20-250 DEG C, and, if appropriate after an afterreaction time, at least part of the solvent is recovered in anhydrous form by distillation from the reaction mixture. The process according to the invention is suitable, inter alia, for cyclising substituted or unsubstituted alpha-naphthyl isocyanate of the formula (I) to the unsubstituted or substituted benz[c,d]indol-2-one (naphtostyril) of the formula (II).
