PURPOSE:To increase the tracking accuracy by starting the counting of the pulse oscillator of the following stand at the stand arriving time of the singular point and by performing the tracking inside the mill via the progressing quantity of the preceding material by utilizing the backing rate. CONSTITUTION:The pulse oscillator 12A-15A to oscillate the pulse according to the number of roll rotations are provided on each stand 12-15 of tandem mill 10. Pulse counters 12B-15B and pulse number computing elements 12C-15C as well are arranged corresponding to each oscillator 12A-15A. At the time when the singular point reaches a stand 11 the counting of the pulse of the oscillator 12A of the following stand 12 is started by the counter 12B. At the time when this pulse count value has reached the preset value in the computing element 12C in advance the computing element 12C outputs the arrival signal of the singular point to the computing element 13C. The tracking accuracy in the singular point is increased by repeating this method in order thereafter.
