PURPOSE:To make it possible to simply and instantaneously detect a foul breath to quantitatively measure the same, by reacting a reagent system, which contains alkali metal azide and iodine and receives accelerated decomposition reaction in the presence of a sulfur-containing compound, in the presence of the sulfur-containing compound. CONSTITUTION:A reagent system is obtained by dissolving alkali metal azide (e.g., NaN3, KN3 or LiN3), potassium iodine and iodine in distilled water and used as a reaction reagent raw solution. This reagent raw solution is diluted by a proper amount of distilled water to prepare a reaction solution. This reaction solution is further diluted by distilled water to prepare standard solutions with various dilution magnifications. A score is applied to the standard solutions in order from one (high in brown color density) low in a dilution degree to one (low in brown color density) high in a dilution degree. A saliva specimen is dripped to a definite amount of the reaction solution and, after initial violent foaming was finished (after about 5-10 sec from the dripping time), the color density of this reaction system is compared with the color densities of the standard solutions and the score corresponding to the dilution degree (color density) of one of the above mentioned standard solutions is applied corresponding to the color density of the reaction system.
