PURPOSE:To prepare NH 4SO3NH2 in high selectivity at a high reaction rate, by oxidizing an aqueous solution containing (NH4)2S2O3 in a specific free NH3 concentration in the liquid phase with oxygen in the presence of a metallic catalyst or the metallic catalyst containing copper. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing (NH4)2S2O3 and free NH3 is oxidized in the liquid phase with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. In the process, the solution is oxidized in the liquid phase in a free NH3 concentration of 2-6mol/l in the presence of a specific metallic catalyst. One of V, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, Sn, Pt or Au and further with Cu are used as the catalyst.
