SOIL CONDITIONER FOR AGRICULTURE AND HORTICULTURE AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled conditioner which is inexpensive and easy to mass- produce, by burning raw material powders mainly composed of siliceous stone and clay to form an inorganic open-cell porous material, grinding it, and giving shape-retaining treatment with a water-absorptive, water-soluble synthetic polymer thickener. CONSTITUTION:Raw material powders composed mainly of seleceous stone, clay, etc. are burnt to form an inorganic open-cell porous material having a large number of open cells. This material is ground into powder or a massive form and undergoes shape-retaining treatment with a water-absorptive, water-soluble synthetic polymer thickener (e.g. an acrylic acid polymer or a carboxyvinyl polymer) to give a soil conditioner for agriculture and horticulture. This conditioner gives suitable permeability and water retentivity to soil due to the permeability and water retentivity of the inorganic porous material coupled with the water absorptivity of the water-soluble synthetic polymer thickener.
