The probe for introducing inert gas and/or solids into molten metal comprises a metal tube with support elements to hold a heat-proof e.g. concrete, mantle. The elements have limited freedom of movement relative to the tube in axial and radial directions whilst the tube is movably held within the mantle. - The elements pref. comprise rings arranged with axial and radial clearance in annular grooves in the tube wall and broad-headed radial pins with their shank ends welded on the outer ring perimeters. The pins may be contd. with clearance in the mantle material.
