Bottom bearing for a rudder shaft 1 of a ship, the rudder shaft being provided with keyways 2 for receiving spline teeth 9, a bearing bush 4 which surrounds the rudder shaft being provided with continuous keyways 3 or keyways over a substantial part of the same, with which spline teeth 9 come into engagement. The outer surface of the bearing bush 4 is provided with a bearing material 5 and has an outer spherical stop surface 6, which is accommodated by top 8 and bottom 7 parts of the bearing bush. The top part 8 of the bearing bush is fastened to the hull in a known manner. The bearing bush permits vertical displacement of the rudder shaft relative to the bearing bush 4 and movement of the rudder shaft perpendicularly to the centre line of the bearing bush 4. IMAGE
