In order to increase the yield of diamonds when processing diamond-containing raw materials such as kimberlite in order to recover diamonds, in which process the diamonds themselves are to remain, as far as possible, undamaged during the crushing processes, it is proposed according to the invention to carry out the crushing of the diamond-containing material in the gap of a roller machine with comminution by choke feeding, in which the particles in the roller gap crush one another in a pile, collectively or in a choke feed in such a way that the fracture surfaces in the particles follow the boundary faces between the minerals with the result that, by virtue of the high degree of disassociation of intergrown diamond-containing particles which is achieved, precise sorting into diamonds and non-diamond-containing piles is made possible.
