In mfg. an edge trimming strip with tassels, selvage is formed with a cross-stitch such that there are periodic loops hanging down from the selvage. A bundle of threads is looped through the suspended loops and the outer ends are then cut through to form the tassels. Two threads are used to bind the tassels, the upper thread being knotted around the individual legs of the bundle and the lower thread binding the two legs of the bundle together. The tassels are bound by means of a machine which feeds the tassel bundle and the binding threads via tubes which are capable of a lateral translation and work together with a needle which binds the bundle and ties the thread off. The piping with tassels produced is attractive and closely approaches in appearance a hand made piping.
