The process consists of aerobic incubation of a steroid contg. at least 8C atoms in the side chain in 17-position, with MV-cobacteriumNRRLB-3683orenzymesderivedfromthis. Incubation is carried out in a nutrient medium contg. sources of carbon and nitrogen, as well as inorganic salts providing phosphate, magnesium and iron ions, at 23-35 deg. C for 2 hours to 15 days.
