New antitumour, antimicrobial cpd. FR-900447

A cpd., FR-900447, and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts are claimed, the free form of the cpd. being characterised by its (1) elemental analysis ((%) C59.05, H6.72, N5.57); (2) mol. wt. 928; (3) m.pt. 85 deg. C (dec); (4) optical rotation ((alpha) .23/D=+291.4 deg. (C=0.675, H2O)); (5) u.v., i.r., n.m.r., and 13C-n.m.r. absorption spectra; (6) solubilities; and (7) reactivity to KMnO4, I2, ceric sulphate, Ehrlich's reaction, Dragendorff reagent and Molish's reaction. Prodn. of FR-900447 comprises culturing a suitable Streptomyces strain in aq. nutrient medium under aerobic conditions. Also claimed is a biologically pure culture of Streptomyces rubropurpureus, capable of producing FR-900447 as above (i.e. FERM BP-584 and mutants).
