The machine includes a mechanism (18) which accepts coinage of the one currency to render the starting mechanism (21) operable. The acceptance mechanism may accept coinage of both currencies as selected by the player, in which case the payout mechanism pays out winnings in the currency other than that selected by the player. - The machine pref. includes a device to convert the value of any winnings calculated in the one currency to winnings in the other currency according to a fixed or operator-variable conversion rate, a unit (24) being provided to display the conversion rate. Alternatively, a device is provided to convert the value of any coinage inserted into the machine from the one currency to the other currency according to a conversion rate so that the machine then calculates any winnings obtained in the second currency.
