ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn installation for the production of chemicalsubstances is sub-divided into control regions which arecontrolled in a decentralized manner and in which a closeddivisional function is carried out independently in eachcase. The working condition of a control region isdetermined by operating types which may be initially givenand by a limited number of discrete operating values. Theprocess parameters determining the control region conditionare allocated to each operating value in one formulation.These parameters are adjusted by means of suitable devices.In the event of deviations of a parameter, the otherformulation parameters are not adapted, but the procedure isinterrupted if the permissible parameter limits areexceeded. Increases in the operating values are onlypermissible from a quasi-stationary working condition whichis characterized by a normal signal formed from the processmeasurement values. In several control regions, thenecessary flexibility is secured by a flow decoupling bymeans of buffers. Similar control regions are combined intogroups, and different groups are combined into main groups.Groups and main groups are controlled together and aredecoupled from one another by strategic buffers.Le A 21 764-US/CA
