A process for the sowing of seed on ground having a cover of living plants and/or plant residues with the seeds being subsequently covered in one and the same pass of the machine by the plants and/or plant residues being lifted from the ground and the seeds being sown on the cleared ground, characterized by the plants and/or plant residues being carried away above a seed metering mechanism and below a seed holding container in a direction opposite to the direction of travel of a tractor and being deposited on the seed sown on the cleared ground, whereby the seed is fed to the metering mechanism by conveyors running at least approximately horizontal and cross-wise to the direction of travel.
